Sara, Parking Garage at Night
Oil on Canvas, 36" x 48"
I actually completed this a few months ago, but it finished it just in time for it to be dry enough to hang at Art-o-matic. I was only able to photograph it today.
This is probably the most pre-planned of all my pieces. Most of what I do is from photos, but usually I just sort of stumble on the images I want. Taking pictures at parties, looking through old albums, and finding an image that moves me is usually how I go about picking which images to paint.
For Sara, though, I actually had a two-hour photo shoot in the parking garage of the building I work in. I think it was pretty successful and I plan on doing more of that in the future.
Godzilla
Oil on Canvas, 20" x 32"
The blood was originally supposed to be fake blood, as it was part of a costume. However, as I painted it I realized that it played like real blood, which is really creepy, but I think I like it better.
Also, this is my first time experimenting with the comic book text box. I've read comics all my life and I think that it's impossible to do that without the visual vocabulary of the medium having an effect. I can't really explain why I added in this piece, other than the fact that it just seemed to need it.
I'm really happy with how it turned out and I plan on playing with the idea further in future pieces.
